*It would be interesting if more related data could be shared with users for different services. This makes me think of voice activated data requests and how they often miss the mark currently. Over time these will get better. Will user frustration prevent some of the late early adopters for becoming work of mouth for their friends and family?

Email Newsletter Links and Recognition

So, when you read good email newsletters and want to share links, thoughts and ideas that were started in or sparked by the newsletter how to you establish credit to the author and give them a proper link to?

Perhaps every newsletter should have a number system? Or maybe an issue and date sections that is created for you to include in any posts you create and want to credit them back properly. Should email newsletters be posted to the web? If yes, then link there. Or maybe the author will have a link history that you can get access to by subscribing to their newsletter. Or maybe you get to see the issue and you are asked to subscribe if you like what you are reading.

Bob Lefsetz has a really interesting email newsletter. Think he’s been publishing his Letters since the mid 1980’s when they where on paper and distributed via mail. That I can not confirm. Was just reading a post by Bob that inspired me to write this post because I’d love to write about some things he shared and to properly credit him back.

Zillow Options – Feature Request

Zillow Recommendations – 10 Homes We Think You’ll Love

Zillow sends me emails with ten houses I may be interested in.

it might be helpful if they let you select the ones you are slightly interested in. You mark your interest with a check box and it creates driving directions on driving by the homes selected. Sometimes you just need to see the neighborhood before falling in love with a house.

  • Is there a supermarket nearby?
  • What about locations of churches?
  • What about decent restaurants (or bars) to choose from that can be your regular place?
  • What about access to highways and other roads that make traveling to work easier and less stressful?
  • Good sidewalks?
  • Access to public transportation?
  • Proximity to nice parks?
  • Density of dog ownership in the area?

I’d also like Zillow to include high speed internet service providers and options for each location. This would include promotions and actual regular monthly prices for Internet connectivity.

  • Who are the vendors?
  • What speeds and capacity do they offer?
  • Regular prices per month after introductory pricing ends
  • What prices are other people paying in this neighborhood?
  • What speeds and services are they getting?
  • This is a little granular and would require a sample of people to share their bill with Zillow. Perhaps Zillow could help them understand the market price better is they share and make a deal where the consumer can get a better price in exchange for sharing their bill. This would work for other utilities too. Gas, electric, etc…

My Musings

My Musings will be a new category on this site. These will be writings that I’ve most likely written in the past. These could be spur of the moment thoughts that are incomplete as published, they could also be more full formed. I’ll try to included a note somewhere in each post to indicate changes and updates to the original. In the past I’ve used apps to capture an idea or thought and saved it to Dropbox. To the file saved in Dropbox I’ll add something like “Posted” to the end of the file name so as to not post the same item more than once.
